God's Timing

John was a believer and a praying man. One day as he prayed, God gave him a promise. God told him that he would give him a wife, a better job with a promotion, and a house. Soon afterwards, John experienced great turmoil in his life. He started having problems on his job with some of his coworkers. He did not understand why this was happening to him. He prayed again to God, reminding him of his promises. God spoke and told him to trust him. Things around John got worse before they got better. John began to grow weary and wanted to give up several times. One day his coworkers conspired against him and John got fired. John felt broken and cried out to God. Amazingly, God gave John comfort and peace and reassured him of his promise. A few weeks later, John received a phone call from his old job. They told him that they did an investigation of the claims from his coworkers against him and found them to be false. All of the coworkers involved in the investigation got terminated on the spot. John was offered a management position with a bonus and back pay for his troubles. When he returned to work, he met a new employee that ended up being his future wife that God had promised him. They got married a year later and brought a house.

Has God ever promised you something and you had to wait for the promise to come to pass? As we wait for God’s promises to come to pass, we are building up our patience. Romans 5:4 (ESV) says, “and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” We sometimes lack patience going through trials because we want our promises now failing to realize God’s timing. God time is different from our time. 2 Peter 3:8 says, “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” We have to learn the practice of waiting because we will frustrate ourselves if we don’t have patience. Habakkuk 2:3 says, “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” Remember if God gave you a promise, whether in a vision or a word, it will come to pass because God is truth and he cannot lie. Let’s stop worrying about things we don’t have control over and live while entering into God’s rest.

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, You are magnificent, righteous, and pure. You have ensured me time after time of your promises that you have for my life and told me to trust you. Lord help to realize that my time is different from your time. John 7:6 says, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.” Lord I know that everything in your time is beautiful due to Ecclesiastes 3:11. There is a reason Lord why you don’t allow me to have things now even though I don’t understand it. Lord, your time is best because Psalms 75:2 says,” When I choose the proper time, I will judge uprightly.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens. Galatians 6:9 says, “and let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” God I will take refuge in you as I wait because Psalms 18:30 says your way is perfect. Lord as I wait for your promise to come to pass, I will walk in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. I bind up the spirit of doubt and worry. I loose the spirit of faith and hope. I plead the blood of Jesus over my mind. In Jesus mighty name Amen.
