“We must obey God rather than men. "Acts 5:29

Bad Company

Tina was raised in the church and always tried to live a godly life. Her family moved away to a new town for her father’s new job. The move really affected Tina because she missed her old friends and her old church. At her new church there wasn’t a lot of youth there so Tina wasn’t able to bond with too many females her age. Tina longed for a friend and she met a group of girls hanging outside of the school one day. She was invited to a house party and she went later that night. This is where Tina put her relationship with God on the back burner. Tina began to skip school, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, and have sex with boys. Her parents noticed a change in Tina and did some investigation and found out what their daughter was doing. Her parents put Tina on punishment for the remainder of the school year. While Tina was on punishment, she realized how her new teenage friends influenced her to back slide from God. Tina repented her sins to God and re-dedicated her life to him.

Have you ever had someone in your life that has a bad influence on you? Does this person compromise your daily walk with God somehow? We have to ask God for wisdom in these situations. Sometimes we might not be the most popular person in school or work and everyone might not like us. We have to be cautious and realize that we are God pleasers and not people pleasers. When walking with God, you can’t do what everyone else is doing because it is not in his will. We have to take a stand and try our best to not hang out with ungodly people or constantly be in an ungodly environment. That doesn’t mean not associating with them or totally cut them off because we might be the only bible or godly influence in that person’s life. Just try to plant seeds in that person’s life and let God do the rest. But we have to be careful because the devil is prowling like a roaring lion. Here is what the bible says about bad company:

1 Corinthians 15:33: Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."

2 Corinthians 6:14: Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Proverbs 13:20: Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

1 Corinthians 5:11: But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

Psalm 26:4-5 : I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with hypocrites. I hate the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked.

Psalm 119:115: Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God.

Heavenly Father, You are the Most High God. You are so good. How excellent is your name. I pray today that you give me guidance and wisdom to make choices that are pleasing in your sight. Lord I pray against any ungodly influences that would cause me to sin. I ask that your glory can shine through me and that I can walk into your anointing so darkness can flee. Let me put on the mind of Christ today. Galatians 5:16 says, Let me walk in the spirit so that I don’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. Let your praises be continually in my mouth today Lord that I may influence the unbeliever for your glory. Lord, let me serve you with a pure heart. Lord, I pray that you keep me on the straight and narrow path. Lord, I pray that you keep me from temptation. Lord, give me a spirit of discernment so I can know evil from good. Lord, rebuke the devourer from my sake. God I thank you for hearing and answering my prayers. In Jesus name Amen.
